Land of Lambics

I went on vacation to Amsterdam and Brussels at the beginning of the month, and drank a lot of beer. I couldn't think of any kind of coherent narrative for my drinking - so I'll just summarize what I learned:

Amsterdam:

  • Amstel actually has less body and flavor than Amstel Light

  • Heineken is much better in Europe

  • The Heineken brewery tour in Amsterdam is amazing! It has rides!

Brussels:

  • Gueuze (unflavored aged lambic) is disgusting

  • Faro (Sugar and Carmel flavored lambic) is amazing, but you can't get it here because it has to be consumed within 4 weeks of adding the sugar and carmal

  • Apricot lambic is simply sublime

    • I also brought back a couple of unaged bottles and glasses (one of which I promptly broke), so I'll have an idea about white grape lambic in a few months...though I am sorely tempted to drink the bottle now and use the dregs to start a true lambic starter...
